Economy adds 211,000 jobs; unemployment rate holds steady at 5.0%

The U.S. economy added 211,000 jobs last month, and the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.0 percent. Both figures were released this morning by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics -- and neither came as a surprise. Analysts had expected payroll growth in the neighborhood of 200,000 jobs. They had also agreed that the unemployment rate was likely to hold steady.
